12. sınıf İngilizce dersinin ikinci haftasında Theme 1: Music ünitesinin ikinci bölümü ele alınmaktadır. Bu kapsamda 1940'lardan 2000'lere müzik dönemleri ve forum yorumlarından çıkarım yapma (inferring ideas), fikir alışverişinde katılma ve katılmama kalıpları (agreeing & disagreeing), müzik festivali ilanlarını çözümleme (venue, dates, times, tickets), anket grafiklerini yorumlarken kullanılan nicelik ifadeleri (the majority of, over half of, about a quarter of, a small fraction of, none of), dört bölümlü anket raporu yazımı (survey report) ve İngilizce tonlama kalıpları (rising & falling intonation) ayrıntılı olarak incelenmektedir.

Music Through the Decades (1940s–2000s) & Inferring Ideas

Expressing Agreement and Disagreement

I couldn't agree more. (Daha fazla katılamazdım / Tamamen katılıyorum.)You have a point there, but... (Haklı olduğun bir nokta var ama...)I'm afraid I disagree. (Korkarım katılmıyorum.)
No doubt about it. (Buna hiç şüphe yok.)I agree to an extent. (Bir dereceye kadar katılıyorum.)I totally / completely disagree. (Kesinlikle katılmıyorum.)
You are absolutely right. (Kesinlikle haklısın.)I agree up to a point, however... (Bir noktaya kadar katılıyorum ancak...)That's not always true. (Bu her zaman doğru değil.)
That's 100% true. (Bu %100 doğru.)That may be true, yet... (Bu doğru olabilir fakat...)I'd say the exact opposite. (Tam tersini söylerdim.)

Listening & Scanning: Analyzing Music Festival Advertisements

Dates (Tarihler): Festivalin hangi gün veya tarih aralığında yapılacağını gösterir (July 18–20, first weekend of August).

Times (Saatler): Kapı açılış saati (gates open at...) ile ana sahne performans saatlerini (main stage starts at...) ayırt etmek önemlidir.

Tickets & Target Audience (Biletler ve Hedef Kitle): Günlük bilet (daily pass), kombine bilet (full festival pass), erken kayıt indirimi (early bird discount) ve öğrenci indirimi bilgilerini içerir.

Quantifiers & Proportions for Interpreting Survey Results

Writing a 4-Part Survey Report on Music Preferences

İyi yapılandırılmış bir anket raporu (survey report) dört temel bölümden oluşur. Her bölüm, okuyucuya grafiğin genel amacından başlayarak detaylı verileri ve nihai genel sonucu adım adım sunar.

1. What the chart is about (Giriş / Grafiğin Konusu): Anketin kime uygulandığını ve neyi ölçtüğünü açıklar. Kalıplar: This bar chart illustrates / shows / represents the music preferences of...

2. The most important outcome (Ana Bulgu): Grafikte ilk bakışta göze çarpan en baskın sonucu özetler. Kalıplar: Overall, the most striking result is that... / Clearly, the vast majority of...

3. Figures & Percentages giving details (Detaylı Rakamlar ve Karşılaştırmalar): Kategorilerin oranlarını karşılaştırır. Kalıplar: While 55% of the students prefer..., only 10% opt for... / Compared to rock, pop is...

4. Summary of the bigger picture (Sonuç / Genel Tablo Özeti): Bulguların genel anlamını bir cümleyle toparlar. Kalıplar: In conclusion, / To sum up, the survey reveals that...

Pronunciation: Rising and Falling Intonation Patterns

1. Rising Intonation (↗ Yükselen Tonlama): Cevabı gerçekten merak edilen Yes/No questions ('Do you like classical music? ↗') ve emin olunmayan question tags ('You play the violin, don't you? ↗') sonunda ses yükselir.

2. Falling Intonation (↘ Alçalan Tonlama): WH-questions ('What is your favorite band? ↘'), düz bildirim cümleleri, emir cümleleri (commands) ve ünlemler (exclamations: 'What a great concert! ↘') sonunda ses alçalır.

3. Rising and Falling Intonation (↗ ↘ Önce Yükselen Sonra Alçalan): Seçenek sunan sorularda ('Do you prefer pop ↗ or rock ↘?'), sıralama/liste cümlelerinde ('I listen to jazz ↗, blues ↗, and soul ↘.') ve şart cümlelerinde (conditionals) ilk öğelerde ses yükselir, son öğede alçalır.

4. Falling and Rising Intonation (↘ ↗ Önce Alçalan Sonra Yükselen): Birini kibarca bir etkinliğe davet ederken (inviting somebody: 'Would you like to join our band practice tonight ↘↗?') kullanılır.

PRONUNCIATIONFour Intonation Patterns in English1. Rising Intonation (↗)Real Yes/No questions & uncertain question tagsDo you play the guitar? ↗ | You like jazz, don't you? ↗2. Falling Intonation (↘)WH-questions, statements, commands & exclamationsWhat kind of music do you like? ↘ | Turn down the volume! ↘3. Rising + Falling (↗ ↘)Alternatives (or), lists of items & conditionalsWould you prefer pop ↗ or rock ↘? | Drums ↗, bass ↗, and guitar ↘.4. Falling + Rising (↘ ↗)Polite invitations & tentative suggestionsWhy don't we go to the concert tonight ↘↗?

Örnekler

  1. Örnek 1Read the forum comment below: 'Honestly, today's computer-generated beats all sound the same to me. Give me the raw electric guitars and emotional vocals of 1990s grunge bands any day!' What can we infer about the commenter?

    Cevabı göster

Yorumcu günümüzün bilgisayar üretimi ritimlerini tekdüze ('all sound the same') bulmaktadır. Buna karşılık 1990'ların grunge gruplarındaki elektro gitarları ve duygusal vokalleri her zaman tercih edeceğini ('Give me ... any day!') belirtmektedir. Dolayısıyla yorumcu 90'ların rock/grunge müziğini modern dijital müziğe tercih etmektedir. Cevap: The commenter dislikes modern digital beats and strongly prefers 1990s grunge/rock music.

  2. Örnek 2Complete the dialogue with the most appropriate expression: A: 'In my opinion, learning to play a musical instrument improves concentration and memory.' B: '________. Scientific studies also prove that musicians have stronger cognitive skills.'

Cevap: I couldn't agree more / No doubt about it / You are absolutely right.

  3. Örnek 3In a school survey of 200 students, 112 students chose Pop, 48 chose Rock, 16 chose Jazz, and 0 chose Opera. How should you express the figures for Pop (56%), Rock (24%), and Opera (0%) using quantifier phrases?

    Cevabı göster

112 / 200 = %56 oranını ifade etmek için 'over half of' veya 'more than half of' kullanılır. 48 / 200 = %24 oranını ifade etmek için 'about a quarter of' veya 'almost a fourth of' kullanılır. 0 / 200 = %0 oranını ifade etmek için 'none of the students' veya 'no students' kullanılır. Cevap: Over half of the students (56%) prefer Pop, about a quarter of them (24%) like Rock, and none of the students (0%) listen to Opera.

  4. Örnek 4Which part of a 4-part survey report does the following sentence belong to? 'This bar chart illustrates the musical instrument preferences of 150 high school seniors at Atatürk High School.'

    Cevabı göster

Cümle grafiğin ne hakkında olduğunu ve kimlere uygulandığını tanıtmaktadır ('This bar chart illustrates...'). Anket raporunun 1. bölümü (Introduction — What the chart is about) bu işlevi yerine getirir. Cevap: Part 1: Introduction (What the chart is about).

  5. Örnek 5Identify the correct intonation pattern for each sentence below: 1) 'Where did you buy your concert ticket?' 2) 'Do you prefer listening to jazz or classical music?'

2. cümle 'or' bağlacıyla iki seçenek (jazz / classical music) sunduğu için ilk seçenekte yükselen, ikinci seçenekte alçalan tonlama (Rising + Falling intonation ↗ ↘) kullanılır. Cevap: 1) Falling intonation (↘), 2) Rising and Falling intonation (↗ ↘).

  6. Örnek 6Read the festival announcement: 'The Autumn Acoustic Fest will be held at Green Valley Park from October 10 to October 12. Gates open at 5 p.m. Daily tickets are $15, and students get a 50% discount.' What is the venue and how much does a student pay for a daily ticket?

    Cevabı göster

Etkinlik yeri (Venue) 'at Green Valley Park' olarak belirtilmiştir. Tam günlük bilet $15 olup öğrencilere %50 indirim uygulandığından öğrenci bileti $7.50 olur. Cevap: Venue: Green Valley Park; Student daily ticket price: $7.50.

Etkinlikler

Soruları çözün; her cevaptan sonra doğru mu yanlış mı olduğunu hemen göreceksiniz.

  1. 1Sarah: 'I think classical music is boring and outdated.' Mark: '________. Listening to Mozart and Beethoven always relaxes my mind and inspires me.' Which expression best completes the dialogue?

  2. 2In a music survey of 100 students, 79 students said they listen to music while studying. Which quantifier best represents 79%?

  3. 3Which of the following sentences uses a Rising + Falling (↗ ↘) intonation pattern?

  4. 4Decide whether the following statements are True (D) or False (Y).

    • The expression 'I couldn't agree more' means that the speaker strongly disagrees with the statement.
    • In English pronunciation, WH-questions (such as 'What kind of music do you like?') normally end with falling intonation (↘).
  5. 5Complete the sentences with the appropriate words.

    1. In a survey where 25% of the participants chose hip-hop, we can write: 'About a of the participants prefer hip-hop.'
    2. When someone makes a point you partly accept before adding an objection, you can say: 'You have a there, but I still think live concerts are better.'
  6. 6Match the survey report sections and festival ad terms on the left with their descriptions on the right.
