Bu hafta

Bu haftaki İngilizce dersimizde bir yandan 4. Tema olan 'Family Life' (Aile Hayatı) konusunu kapsamlı biçimde pekiştiriyor, diğer yandan 5. Tema olan 'Life in the House and Neighbourhood' (Evde ve Mahallede Yaşam) ünitesine güçlü bir başlangıç yapıyoruz.

Theme 4 Consolidation: Family Ties and Household Chores

Aile hayatı (Family Life) ünitesinin temelinde aile bireylerini tanıtma, aile bağlarını (family ties/bonds) ifade etme ve ev içi sorumlulukları (household chores) adil biçimde paylaşma yer alır. Geniş aile (extended family) kavramı içinde 'grandparents' (büyükanne ve büyükbaba), 'parents' (ebeveynler), 'siblings' (kardeşler), 'only child' (tek çocuk), 'twin' (ikiz), 'nephew' (erkek yeğen), 'niece' (kız yeğen) ve 'relatives' (akrabalar) kelimeleri sıkça kullanılır. İyi geçinen aile bireyleri için 'get on well with' (iyi anlaşmak), birbirine destek olanlar için 'back up / support each other' ve aile büyüklerine saygı duymak için 'look up to / respect elders' ifadeleri tercih edilir.

Mutfakta yapılan işler arasında 'prepare breakfast' (kahvaltı hazırlamak), 'set / lay the table' (sofrayı kurmak), 'clear the table' (sofrayı toplamak) ve 'load / empty the dishwasher' (bulaşık makinesini doldurmak/boşaltmak) öne çıkar. Evin genel temizliğinde ise 'make the bed' (yatağı toplamak), 'tidy up the room' (odayı toplamak), 'vacuum the carpets' (halıları süpürmek), 'dust the furniture' (mobilyaların tozunu almak), 'do the laundry' (çamaşır yıkamak), 'do the ironing' (ütü yapmak) ve 'take out the rubbish/garbage' (çöpü çıkarmak) fiil öbekleri kullanılır.

Grammar Review: Present Simple vs. Present Continuous

Aile yaşamını ve evdeki anlık durumları anlatırken iki temel zamanı (tense) karşılaştırmalı olarak kullanırız: Present Simple Tense (Geniş Zaman) ve Present Continuous Tense (Şimdiki Zaman). Present Simple Tense; ailemizin kalıcı durumlarını, nerede yaşadığımızı, günlük rutinlerimizi ve geleneklerimizi anlatır. Olumlu cümlede 'he/she/it' öznelerinde fiile '-s/-es/-ies' eki gelir, soru ve olumsuzda 'do/does' yardımcı fiilleri kullanılır. Sıklık zarfları (always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never) asıl fiilden önce, 'to be' (am/is/are) fiilinden sonra yer alır: 'We usually gather at my grandparents' house every Friday evening.'

Present Continuous Tense (am/is/are + V-ing) ise tam konuşma anında (now, right now, at the moment) veya bu günlerde geçici olarak (these days, this week) devam eden eylemleri ifade eder. My mother usually cooks dinner on weekdays, but today she is resting in the living room and my father is preparing pasta in the kitchen right now.' Sevgi, sahiplik ve düşünce bildiren durum fiilleri (stative verbs: love, like, need, want, belong, know, have=sahip olmak) ise '-ing' eki almaz.

TenseForm (Structure)Usage in Family & Home ContextTime Markers
Present SimpleV1 / V-s (don't / doesn't)Daily routines, family traditions, permanent home factsalways, usually, every day, on Sundays
Present Continuousam / is / are + V-ingActions happening right now or temporary situationsnow, at the moment, today, Look!, Listen!
Stative VerbsSimple form only (No -ing)Feelings, possession, mental states (belong, need, love)This detached house belongs to my uncle.
PRESENT SIMPLE VS. PRESENT CONTINUOUS IN FAMILY CONTEXT Present Simple (Routines & Habits) My father usually cooks dinner, and I always set the table. Time Expressions: always, usually, often, sometimes, every weekend, on Sundays Present Continuous (Happening Now) Look! My sister is watering the plants in the garden right now. Time Expressions: now, right now, at the moment, currently, today, this week

Theme 5 Preparation: Types of Houses and Parts of a Home

5. Temamız olan 'Life in the House and Neighbourhood' ünitesine geçerken öncelikle insanların yaşadığı konut türlerini (types of houses) ve evin bölümlerini (parts of a house) tanırız.

Life in the Neighbourhood: Public Places and Directions

Bu yerlerin eve yakınlığını belirtmek için 'within walking distance' (yürüme mesafesinde) veya 'just around the corner' (hemen köşede) ifadeleri kullanılır.

Mahallede bir yeri ararken adres sormak (asking for directions) için 'Excuse me, how can I get to the nearest pharmacy?' (Affedersiniz, en yakın eczaneye nasıl gidebilirim?), 'Could you tell me the way to the public library?' veya 'Is there a post office near here?' kalıpları kullanılır. Yön tarif ederken (giving directions) ise emir cümleleri tercih edilir: 'Go straight ahead / Go along this street' (Bu cadde boyunca düz gidin), 'Turn left / Turn right into Oak Street' (Meşe Sokağı'na sola/sağa dönün), 'Take the first/second turning on the right' (Sağdaki ilk/ikinci sokağa girin), 'Walk past the bakery' (Fırını geçin), 'Cross the street at the traffic lights' (Trafik ışıklarından karşıya geçin) ve 'It is on your left, opposite the park' (Solunuzda, parkın karşısındadır).

Comparing Homes and Neighbourhoods

İki evi veya iki mahalleyi karşılaştırırken tek heceli sıfatlara '-er ... than' (bigger than, quieter than, safer than, closer than), iki veya daha fazla heceli sıfatların önüne ise 'more ... than' veya 'less ... than' (more spacious than, more modern than, more Peaceful than, more expensive than) getirilir: 'Living in a detached house in the countryside is quieter and more peaceful than living in a crowded city centre, but city flats are closer to public transport.'

Üç veya daha fazla seçeneği karşılaştırıp en üstün olanı belirtirken 'the -est' veya 'the most ...' (the brightest room, the most comfortable armchair, the oldest building in our neighbourhood) kullanılır. Düzensiz sıfatlar olan 'good -> better -> the best', 'bad -> worse -> the worst' ve 'far -> farther/further -> the farthest/furthest' değişimlerine özellikle dikkat edilir. Ayrıca bir özelliğin eşitliğini anlatırken 'as + adjective + as' (Our balcony is as large as the kitchen), aşırılık ve olumsuz yeterlilik bildirirken 'too + adjective' (This flat is too noisy and too small for a big family) ve yeterlilik bildirirken 'adjective + enough' (The living room is bright and spacious enough) yapıları kullanılır.
